Essays | Wright Writing

If you are at school or university, and you ask someone else to write an essay on your behalf, then you are not merely cheating your classmates and your teacher. You are also cheating yourself. So please don’t ask me to help. I am more than willing to help people to learn. I will not help them to lie.

I don’t mean to sound like a prig. I myself cheated at school on a number of occasions, even when I was top of the class. So I know how easy it is to succumb. In French vocab tests, I would copy off the boy next door, who had actually taken the trouble to do his homework. In history exams, I scrawled dates on the back of my hand. I even accepted payment in Cadbury’s Creme Eggs from the son of a Swiss banker, who wanted me to fake his Greek unseens.

I was so stupid back then. There is much satisfaction, I have since discovered, in applying myself hard enough to learn something new. And none in pretending that I know more than I (or you) do.
